How to Release Your Past to Change Your Future

Why do things keep happening to me?

Have you ever said that? Felt that? Thought that?

How does that feel? Negative? Like a cloud hanging over your whole damn life? Like screaming “this can’t be life!”

You’re right! That’s not life. That’s life through the role you are playing in your life. If you are constantly saying “why are things happening to me? Why does everything suck?” It’s not the world. It’s you. Sorry not sorry.  When you live in victim mode, being a product of circumstances, instead of choosing to be positive you give your life power and energy away. Stop that shit.

Being positive and proactive doesn’t mean not acknowledging negative things or feelings.  It means realizing what’s actually in your control and what’s not. Realizing that what’s not in your control is not really something for you to worry about.

Realizing what’s in your control and DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT is the first and second step to taking back your power.

Here are the things that are within your control: how you feel, what you think, how you act and how you react.

Things that are not in your control are: how someone else feels, what they think, how they react, and how they act. You have no control over that so don’t worry about it. This isn’t a “selfish” approach this is a proactive principled based approach. You have more control and power over your life than you realize.

You have control over the role you play in your life. You can be an ACTIVE participant or a passive by-stander. Guess which one gets the life they want? The active participant. How can you become an active participant? By realizing what’s in your control and taking proactive steps towards that.

Your takeaway

Take inventory of your thoughts and see which ones are proactive and which ones are reactive. Write them down. Of the reactive thoughts, see how you can make them proactive. If you can’t then you release them from you. You can even say out loud “I release you!” And cross the thought out. Then throughout the day take mini inventories of your thoughts and if it’s not serving you say “I release you!” Or “thank you but no thank you” or “not now” something to take back your power. You are more powerful than you realize. Now it’s time to act like it.
