When it comes to creating an email welcome series, many introverted women entrepreneurs struggle with where to start and how to make it effective. There are 3 challenges introverted women entrepreneurs run into that keep their email welcome series from being effective.
Those 3 challenges are:
- not knowing what to say or when to say it
- not knowing what to sell or if they should sell anything and
- not focusing on building a long-term relationship with their new subscribers
These 3 things keep introverted women entrepreneurs from using the most powerful form of email marketing, email marketing automation (& klaviyo flows).
By not having an email welcome series you are leaving tons of money and long-term relationship-building on the table. Building this relationship is key for future launches, promotions, and product sales.
While these challenges are real and I, myself, have experienced I’ve also discovered 7 things you need for an effective email welcome series and I’ll share how you can get exclusive help with it.
7 Things You Need for an Effective Email Welcome Series
All right let’s get started!
A Special Offer or Gift
To truly make sure you are targeting the right people you want an offer that is appealing to your ideal customer. You also want to help them get a quick win. By its nature, this doesn’t include starting with a discount code. I am not saying you can’t share one in your welcome series. What I am saying is not to lead with that.
A good opt-in that offers quick wins/ results is something like a checklist, a quiz, a guide, or a roadmap. These will help people make progress and position you as an expert. I especially love quizzes or assessments if you sell a lot of products and it can be overwhelming to pick one or a few.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. It does need to be obvious that the next step are your products.
Clear mission, values, and “why”
Having a clear mission, values, & why is important because it allows people to connect with your brand. People connect with brands on a deeper level than simply buying a product. If you mission and values are on par with theirs they are more like to rock with you for longer and help you spread the word.
Interesting component/benefit/ingredient your customers love & reasons why they love it
Talking about something your customers love can create a relationship and endear your brand to your new potential customers. This will allow you to talk about a component, give information about it, and pre-sell your product without it being a pushy sale.
This also doesn’t have to be directly product-related either to still be effective!
A prime example of this is what we learned during a survey for one of my retainer clients. We discovered that their customers loved that they are a black-owned and operated business. Customers also love that it’s run by a couple who love each other and enjoy what they do! This signals to potential customers what makes your brand valuable without saying this is what makes your brand valuable.
Resources to share such as blogs, videos, and/or podcasts
When you share content it continues to position you as an expert. It also shows that you’re highly interested in the potential customer getting results. In my email sequence templates, I include an email to share content that positions you as an expert and continues to guide them on their customer journey.
The desire to get to know your potential customers better
When it comes to email marketing (& content marketing in general) knowing your ideal customer is still very important. By getting to know your potential customers you are better able to meet them where they are with content (email or otherwise) that’s effective and helps them to connect the dots. When you don’t focus on the content it starts to seem like it’s just a “gimme” from your business.
That’s why one of the emails in the email welcome series template bundle I offer is all about asking them to reply. By asking them to reply you begin to have 1:1 conversations with your potential customers, thereby getting to them personally! Win win!
A signature product & 2 honest testimonials for it
Is there something that MOST of your ideal customers purchase at some point? Then this is probably your signature product. If that’s the case then including a promo for it (with social proof aka testimonials) directly in your welcome series is important. This email welcome series is about building the relationship AND it’s also intended to help those who are ready to make a purchase take the next step. They often need to see how other people fared before jumping in.
Email Welcome Series Bonus: A long-term relationship-building mindset
In all of this, you’ll notice I discussed building relationships. You CAN simply send emails that offer promos only and you might do well but there won’t be any positive affect towards your brand. It’ll be more of a commodity for which the next brand that comes along with better pricing they will jump ship.
But, by having a relationship-building mindset, you’ll build the one thing that helps businesses stay in business: LOYALTY. You can’t fake loyalty. By building a relationship with your customers you build the foundation for them wanting to continue to do business with you for the long haul.
