You know your email list is highly valuable but due to life and the holidays getting in the way, you’re not able to send emails as often as you’d like. This can lead to you having a cold list. No bueno!
Instead of focusing on how you can engage them again, take the proactive route: Schedule out emails in advance that continue to nurture the people on your email list on autopilot. This is called an evergreen email sequence.
According to The Annuitas Group, nurtured leads buy 47% more!
In this article, I share 3 types of evergreen email sequences you can create to keep your email subscribers engaged and opening your emails. Implementing these sequences will keep your email list engaged and may even generate additional sales along the way!
Let’s get started
Before I jump into the types of evergreen email sequences you can use you might be wondering…”what is an evergreen email sequence?
What is an evergreen email sequence?
An evergreen email sequence is a series of 2 or more emails that can be sent year round (much like how an evergreen tree is mostly green year round!) to keep your email list engaged. You can send it to subscribers regardless of how long they’ve been on your email list.
The first type of evergreen email sequence you can use to nurture your list is a “best of content” sequence.
Evergreen Email Sequence #1: Best of Content
This is when you send your subscribers your best performing emails/blog posts/podcast episodes. When you share these high quality pieces again, it reinforces your message while helping you get some additional mileage out of the content.
3 examples of this type of sequence are:
- Best of the blog/podcast/videos
- Hidden gems series (content you’ve created that doesn’t get a lot of organic reach or you haven’t shared a lot)
- Best emails you’ve sent in the past (determined based on opens, clicks, replies, and sales if applicable)
My clients like this idea because it helps them repurpose their content and they don’t have to reinvent the wheel. That allows them to focus more on creating products to sell!
The next type of evergreen email sequence you can create is the guest / featured series!
Evergreen Email Sequence #2: Guest / Featured Series
This is when you share places you’ve either been featured (and what they can learn from listening/watching) or where you’ve written guest post (and what they can learn from reading). This will also help your credibility and give the host an influx in traffic as well. Win-win-win!
Some examples, depending on how many you might have of each are:
- Guest featured video/podcast
- Guest blog posts
- Both of these in one series
This email sequence works because it allows entrepreneurs like you to share where you’ve been featured and boost your credibility without it being an insufferable humble brag fest. Kudos!
The third type of evergreen email sequence you can create is the resources/tools/affiliate series.
Evergreen Email Sequence #3: Resources / tools / affiliate series
This is when you share your top tools, tips, and resources for your subscribers and almost all of them are connected to a product that you’re an affiliate for. This helps them move closer to their goals with the specific resources you recommend and allows you to make some money as well.
An example of this is, say you’re a cooking expert and you have tools you prefer and recommend. You can do a top tools and resources series with your preferred products and link to them on Amazon. In the emails you’d discuss what the tool is, what it does for you, and why it’s awesome and then link them to how they can get it. If you have a video of you using the item even better. Share a link to that as well. All of this stacks on your authority and credibility.
Another example is if you sell a physical product like teaware. You can do a series on your favorite teas and then link to the places where they can buy it. You could also do the series for items in your own shop!
So far we’ve covered 3 types of evergreen email sequences:
- Top / best of series
- Guest / featured series
- Tools / resources series
But I have a bonus evergreen series idea for you…
Your welcome sequence!
Yes, this is an evergreen email sequence as well! If you’ve updated it recently, changed some things up with it, or changed the offers attached, then there are people on your email list who haven’t experienced the new series! Send your entire list through your updated welcome sequence if you’ve got one (you have one right?)
A welcome sequence helps you build a relationship with your new subscribers but it can also reconnect you to existing subscribers as well. You may even generate some new sales!
If you don’t have a welcome sequence, I’m not going to shame you. Instead I’m going to offer it to you right here and now. Click here to get it (both digital and physical versions are available!)
So in this article I shared how you can keep your list engaged and opening your emails when you don’t have time to actively email during the busy holiday season and that’s by creating evergreen email sequences that you can activate at any time.
The 3 types of email sequences were:
- Top and best of series
- Guest / featured series
- Tools/ resources series
Plus a bonus sequence: the Welcome Email Sequence.
In my preferred email service provider: ActiveCampaign it’s easy to put your people into an evergreen email sequence.
Simply follow these 6 steps:
- go to your contacts,
- select the list they are on,
- select active as their current status,
- click edit all,
- then a popup dialog window box will open and in it select “add to automation”
- then click apply.
Viola!

They can stay engaged and ready to rock simply by incorporating evergreen email sequences into your email marketing system. Using these email sequences will save you from having to re-engage your list after ghosting them. Even with the proper methods, reheated pizza is never the same. The same goes for your list.
And if you’re struggling with where to get started with an evergreen email sequence start with your welcome sequence. Having a robust one will continue to be applicable as time goes on.
